SASH Recognized as a National Model in Shelterforce

SASH was recognized in a new op-ed from Shelterforce, the national affordable housing and community development publication. Written by Jim King, CEO of Fahe, a rural housing network based in Appalachia, the piece calls on housing advocates to stop treating partnerships as static arrangements and instead build systems designed to help people age safely and affordably at home.

King points to SASH as one of two national examples of what that kind of thinking looks like in practice, noting that the program connects housing providers, healthcare organizations, and service coordinators "designed to help people remain healthy and independent at home." He also highlights that the model has improved health outcomes while reducing healthcare spending.

Every day, SASH coordinators work directly with residents in their own homes and apartments, connecting them to the healthcare and community resources that keep them living independently longer. Seeing that work referenced alongside a national rural housing initiative is a good reminder that a program built here in Vermont is shaping conversations well beyond our state lines.
